Improving lives at Singapore School through Assistive Technology

Improving the communities in which we live is one of Cummins' core values. Engagement is the underpinning of our responsibility to our communities ' employees around the globe using their skills to make their communities better places to live and work. We aim to use our global footprint and the strength of our employees' skills to achieve impact and results.

Cummins Generator Technologies and Cummins Singapore employees together with the Singapore Assistive Technology team gathered at the Rainbow Centre to assemble sitting correction chairs.

Rainbow Centre is a non-profit organisation for children with special needs. Students with physical disabilities need assistance with their sitting positions so that they can participate effectively in a classroom setting. Using sitting correction chairs that provide stability and aid in proper posture positioning are important to build muscle strength and enable them to focus on developing and coordinating arm and hand skills.

The Singapore Assistive Technology committee embarked on this project to provide a cost effective but robust solution by reducing design complexity of the chairs for Rainbow Centre. A prototype was assembled and delivered to Rainbow Centre for actual testing before they proceeded with a full production of 37 to be used in the classrooms.
